Spirit of the Points
Exploring the deeper meaning of acupuncture points for
Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners
What's it all about ?
To look at the points, their names and meaning, to build a deeper understanding of the point, to answer the question why am i using this point
To explore the point, pull it apart, dig into it, put it back together again so it settles into your subconscious allowing you to use them more intuitively

Paul Oakfield
I was introduced to Five Element Acupuncture by JR Worsley in the 1990s, which sparked my interest in the Spirit of the Points
My exposure to information about the Spirit of the Points was quite limited, and any details I did find were often unclear, leaving me puzzled about their significance.
I utilize JR's English Point names. By taking the Chinese Point name, which usually comprises 2 or 3 characters or words, I delve into the meanings of these terms and how, when linked together, they offer a richer and more profound comprehension of the point's application.
Instead of merely labeling GV - 1 as Long Strength when using it, we examine the Chinese name (Chang Qiang) and the meanings of the words Chang and Qiang to grasp its deeper importance and more significant connotations.
This approach ensures that when you needle the point, you have a much clearer intention regarding your choice.

I also encountered very limited information regarding the Spirit of the Points, and any information that was available was ambiguous, with no explanation as to why that was the case.

Governor Points
We take each point on the Governor Vessel, Delve into the meaning of the English and Chinese names,
We build an image of each points meaning, we see how the energy of the point is connected to the name of the point and develop a resonance with each spirit of the point
We review and summarise the use of the points across the whole meridian, see how it inter connects to the other points on the meridian, so the "Governor Vessel" takes on a new and subtle meaning
